1st time home buyer?

Im ready finacialy to purchase my 1st home. im not sure where to start. i heard people say take a homebuyer's workshop in my area. I've been reading every magazine article and many questions posted here and taking notes...this is not going to be my dream home just a simple starter home i plan to keep this home for 10-15 years then use my VA to purchase my dream home later on. So i would like to know where do i start educating myself on the whole home buying process i dont want to be taken advantage of from the real estate agent, loan company or mortage company. i want to know my stuff so im not walked on and taken for more money than i have to spend.
